Jules D'Orsay Holmes 1918 - 1997

Jules D'Orsay Holmes, 78, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Whiting, Iowa, died August 31, 1997, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Mr. Holmes was born December 9, 1918, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Edwin and Leone (d'Orsay) Holmes. He attended school in Whiting before completing his college education at Carleton College and the University of Iowa where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

From 1941 to 1946 he served in the US Navy as a
Lieutenant on the USS Lang. In November of 1949, he married Lucy Durham of Knoxville, Iowa. He and his wife resided in Whiting and Onawa, Iowa, prior to moving to Colorado Springs in 1962. Summers were spent at their Lake Okoboji home.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy of Colorado Springs Colorado; 3 sons, Mark Holmes of Latham, New York, Jeffery Holmes of Los Angeles, Ca., and Edwin Holmes of Couer d'Alene, Idaho; a daughter Susan Holmes Kleinschmidt of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and 3 grandchildren, Thomas Kleinschmidt, Matthew Holmes and Marianna Holmes.

Memorial Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 1997, at the First Congregational Church, Whiting, Iowa, with Rev. Patricia G. Minnick officiating. The organist was Kay MacClure, the pianist was Fran Haack, and the soloist, Annette Sorenson, sang, "You Are The Wind Beneath My Wings". The congregation sang the hymn, "Abide With Me". Dan Neldeberg read the obituary and Eulogy.

Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
