Gale Webster Forbes, 85, of Onawa, Iowa died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Gale was born October 5, 1912, on a farm in Ashton Township, rural Onawa, Iowa, the son of George G. and Elizabeth (Webster) Forbes. He graduated from Whiting Consolidated School in 1930. After his father's death in 1940, he continued to farm for over 50 years. When he retired from farming, he began planting a large garden and enjoyed sharing it with neighbors and friends.

He was baptized and a member of the First Congregational Church in Whiting, a 50-year member of Weston Lodge #562 A.F. & A.M. at Whiting, a member of Sioux City Consistory, Monona County Historical Society, and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City. He was a contributor to the Onawa Museum and was active in Farm Bureau and the R.E.C.

He is survived by three sisters, Mildred Wolcott, Georgie Mahoney, and Nancy Forbes, all of Onawa; and two nieces and their husbands, Marsha and John Wasilewski of Schleswig and Janess and Orville Jacobsma of Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Freda Aiello; and a younger brother, Robert.

Graveside service were held 11 a.m. Monday, June 8, 1998, at the Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with Rev. Patricia C. Minnick officiating.

Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa
