Paul "Bus" Hightree, 81, of Whiting, Iowa, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Bus was born July 13,1917, at Valier, Montana, the son of John M. and DeNola (Potts) Hightree. He graduated from Macy (NE) High School in 1935. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. On April 21, 1942, he married Ella Mae Streeter in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

He was a heavy equipment operator with various construction companies. The couple lived at Decatur, Nebraska, before moving to Whiting 27 years ago. He retired in the summer of 1975.

He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints in Decatur, Nebraska, the Emery Johnson American Legion Post #481 of Whiting, Iowa, and Union #571.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae of Whiting; 2 sons and their wives, Denny and Gloria Hightree and Dean and Wilma Hightree, all of Omaha, Nebraska; 1 daughter and her husband, Neta and Clarence Brockway of Decatur, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 brother and his wife, Herb and Leona Hightree of Walthill, Nebraska; 1 sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hightree of Decatur; NE and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Earl and Bill; and 1 sister, Melva.

Memorial Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 1999, at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Decatur, Nebraska, with Elder Dale Peterson and Elder Ed Rieger officiating. The organist was Ethelyn Brewer and soloist, Mary Ann Bacon, sang the selections, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "His Eye Is On The Sparrow". Soloist, Jerry French, sang the selection, "The Lord's Prayer".

Military Rites were by Roger Crum American Legion Post #215, Decatur, Nebraska, with Glenn Tippery, Commander. Burial will be at a later date in the Whiting City Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa
