Alice T. Putnam, 82, of rural Mapleton died Saturday, April 19, 1986, in a nursing home in Onawa.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton. The Rev. Dick Krambeck officiated. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery. A prayer service was at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Putnam, the former Alice Samuelson, was born October 5, 1903, to Oscar and Maria (Melland) Samuelson in Newman Grove, Nebraska. She graduated from Elgin (Nebraska) High School and later from Wayne State Teachers College. She taught schools for 11 years in rural Boyd County, Nebraska, and in Napier, Nebraska. She married Fred Putnam July 15, 1927, in South Dakota. The couple lived in Napier and Spencer, Nebraska, until moving to a farm near Mapleton in 1945.

Mrs. Putnam was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church of Mapleton and served on the executive board for several years. She also was a member of United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dale of Lincoln, Nebraska and the Rev. Dr. Gary of Stockton, California; a brother, Everett of Detroit, Michigan; a sister, Lorraine Stellberger of Livonia, Michigan; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Lyle Rose, Dale Engelke, Orville Lundeen, Eugene Wimmer, Marvin Means and Mark Greier.
