Julia Mildred "Milly" Hedum, 98, of Whiting, Iowa; died January 10, 1997, at Burgess Memorial Hospital of Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Congregational Church of Whiting. Burial will be in Whiting Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour to service time at the Church. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Hedum was born October 9, 1898, near Whiting, the daughter of Alexander B. and Sara (Hurst) Robinson . She graduated from Whiting High School in 1917 and from Iowa State Teachers College.

She taught for two years at Sloan, Iowa and 4 years at Soldier, Iowa.

She married Rudolph W."Red" Hedum on April 9, 1925, in Whiting.

The couple made their home in the Whiting area. He died January 22, 1994, in Whiting.

She was employed as a librarian at the Whiting Library for 10 years, retiring in 1979.

Mr. Hedum was a member of First Congregational Church for 80 years were she served as an officer in women's fellowship of the church and as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. She was a member of the Whiting's Women's Club and the Order of Eastern Star where she was a past matron.

Survivors include 2 daughters and their husbands, Joy and William Thompson of Sioux City, Iowa, and Karen and Lee Sommars of Houston, Texas; a son and his wife, John and Joanne Hedum of Orlando, Florida; a son-in-law, Charles Rowland of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a great-great- grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Rowland; two grandsons; and 3 great-granddaughters.
