Hazel Wickland King, age 88, passed away at her daughter's home in New Albany, Ohio, on Monday, May 5, 1997, in the care of Mt. Carmel Hospice.

Hazel was born in Whiting, Iowa, on September 8, 1908, to James Emil and Anna (Miller) Wickland. She graduated from Whiting High School in 1925 and attended St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa. She served as a hospital and private duty nurse.

On June 24, 1940, at Tipton, Iowa, she married Cecil Elmo King of Mt. Olive, Mississippi. The couple lived extensively throughout the United States and made their home in Onawa, Iowa, in 1975. Mr. King died December 12,1984, in Onawa.

In 1994, Hazel moved to Kensington Place in Lutheran Village of Columbus, Ohio.

She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of Whiting, Iowa, where she was a former deaconess and secretary of Women's Fellowship, a member of Onawa Women's Club, and a member of Iowa Republican Women.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carole and William Jarrell of New Albany, Ohio; a grandson and his wife, Craig Alan and Elizabeth Lane Jarrell, also of New Albany; 2 nieces, Patricia Volkert of Sac City, Iowa, and Betty Strasser of Lawrence, Kansas; and a nephew, Jim
Hopkins of LeMars, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband; 2 sisters, Verna Anderson and Annabel Hopkins; and 5 brothers, Guy, James, Raymond, Howard, and Leland Wickland.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 AM Monday, May 12, 1997, at the First Congregational Church at Whiting, Iowa, with Rev. Patricia Minnick officiating. Mrs. Robert Haack was the pianist and Mrs. Don MacClure was the organist. Mrs. Leonard Lund sang "Amazing Grace". The congregational hymns were "O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee" and "The Old Rugged Cross".

Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery at Whiting with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa; Iowa.
