George F. Vandivort 1905 - 2000

DUNLAP, Iowa — George F. Vandivort, 95, of Dunlap died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Dunlap, with the Rev. Sue Ellen Sherman officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap.

Mr. Vandivort was born Jan. 11, 1905, in Hickman County; Tenn., the son of Ira and Dora (Adcock) Vandivort. He attended school in Tennessee. He moved to Iowa when he was 14 years old.

He married Hilda Pederson on Dec. 10, 1927. The couple made their hope near Dunlap. They later moved to Moorhead and then returned to Dunlap. He owned his own well drilling business in Dunlap. His wife died in 1969.

He then married Devota Mathys. She died in 1990.

Survivors include a son and his wife, George and Carol of Mapleton, Iowa; two daughters, Doratt Baker of Panhandle, Texas, and Roberta and her husband, Don Baker of Ashland, Neb.; a son-in-law, Francis "Badge" Dunkeson of Woodbine, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, JoAnne Vandivort of Denison, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two sons, John in infancy and Franklin; a daughter, Thelma Dunkeson; a son-in-law, Paul Baker; and three brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Rick Dunkeson, Steve Lacey, Randy Sandage and Dave, Mark and Mike Vandivort.
