Onawa, Iowa--Erna Murial Borsheim, 77 of Onawa, Iowa, died Saturday, September 27, 1997, at Pleasant view Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Mrs. Strickland was born on November 1, 1919, at Whiting, Iowa, the fourth daughter of Andrew C. and Elizabeth A. (Olson) Borsheim. She attended the Whiting Public School, graduating in 1937. Following the graduation, she worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission. On March 21, 1944, she married Keifer Lamar Strickland in Burlingame, California, and the couple moved to Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Strickland also lived in Athens, Georgia, and Portland, Oregon, before returning to Dallas. In 1986, she returned home, living in Whiting and Onawa until her death.

She was baptized into the Lutheran faith but maintained a closeness to the First Congregational Church in Whiting. She was a skilled violinist and had a deep love for classical traditional Norwegian, and big band music all of her life. In recent years, she volunteered at Pleasant View Care Center and made many friends in the Whiting and Onawa communities.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Robert H. and Sue Strickland of Duncanville, Texas; her sisters, Ariel Wonder of Onawa, and Jana Celli of Lincoln, Nebraska; a brother and his wife, Norman and Doris Borsheim of South Sioux City, Nebraska; her nephews, Fred Wonder and Willard NorMan Dahl both of Onawa and Kermit Mobley of Raleigh, Nortb Carolina; her niece, Janet Oberg of Ceresco, Nebraska; her grand nephew and his family, William and Kitty Wonder and son, Freddie, all of Onawa; and her grand nephew, Norman Dahl of Whiting; as well as various nieces and nephews along with many caring friends and acquaintances.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her oldest sister, Bernice Dahl of Whiting.

A Graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday,
September 29, 1997, at the Whiting City Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with Rev. Patricia G. Minnick officiating. The music selection was "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God".

Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.

Memorials in her name may be directed to either Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, the Burgess Memorial Hospital Mental Health or the Hospice Program, both in Onawa.
