Edwin H. "Brownie" Brown, 68, Mapleton, Iowa, died Friday, March 10, 2000 at a hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.
"Brownie" was born September 8, 1931 in Omaha, NE, the son of Barney and Ruby (Adams) Brown. He served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict.
He was married to Phyllis Archer August 14, 1954 at Onawa, Iowa. Following their marriage they resided on a farm near Moorhead, Iowa for 16 years. In 1970, the family moved to Mapleton, Iowa where they lived for 23 years; moving to Sioux City in 1993. They returned to Mapleton in October 1999. In Mapleton, he worked for McNear Oil and then was an over the road truck driver for American Freight, Warren Transport and Hunt Transportation. He also worked for Dial America in Sergeant Bluff and following retirement worked for several Sioux City businesses as a security guard.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa, a past member of Peter A. Hanson American Legion Post and a past member of Elk Lodge #586, AF and AM, Moorhead, Iowa.
He loved to visit with his family and his friends and loved to be outdoors. He was especially fond of his little bird, Sammy and his dog, Pogo.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, two daughters, Patricia and her husband James Guernsey of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, and Debra and her husband Jerry Payne of Ida Grove, Iowa; three sons, Michael and his wife Karen of Sioux City, Steven and his wife Tracy of Chariton, Iowa and Brian of Sanborn, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Earl Thompson.
Services were held Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Donald R. Ludwick officiating. Musical selections were "Shall We Gather At The River" and "Softly and Tenderly" rendered by Pastor Donald R. Ludwick with Ann Phillips accompanist and organist. Burial, with military rites conducted by members of Peter A. Hanson American Legion Post, was in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa. Visitation was 6:30 ¬8:30 p.m. Monday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa.
Casket bearers were Jason Brown, Michael Brown, Jr., Clint Leisinger, Dustin Brown, Kyle Payne, Christopher Leisinger and Shawn Bair.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa.
