Walter Dale Dunlop, 80, Moorhead, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Midlands Hospital in Papillion, NE.

Walt was born March 3, 1920 at Moorhead, Iowa the son of Frank and Maggie (Mortensen) Dunlop. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1938 and worked for Lynn Wilson Oil Co. and then for Seaton Transfer as a freight truck driver. He was married to Vivian Lawrenson May 27, 1940 in Onawa, Iowa and the couple made their home in Moorhead.

Walt served in the US Army during WW II as part of Red 1. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in the European Theater Operation.

Following his discharge he returned to Moorhead and was employed with Mortensen Radio Shop and Fred Parker Harness and Shoe Repair. He later owned and operated Dunlop Shoe Store. He served as a postal clerk and as Postmaster in Moorhead retiring in 1975.

Mrs. Dunlop died November 11, 1997 at Omaha, NE.
He was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church, Disabled American Veterans, Northwest Iowa Wood Carvers, and Good Sams Travel Club. He was a 50 year member of Elk Lodge #586 AF & AM, Logan Chapter #195 OES, and Peter A. Hansen American Legion Post #365.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Robert and Kaye of Sioux City and Bill and Shirley of Moorhead, a son-in-law Roger Topf and his wife Ann of Springfield, MO, three grandchildren, Robin, Mike and his wife Marty, and Angie Dunlop, five step-grandchildren, Lisa Topf, Sharon Petersen, Kevin, David, and Karla Grindle, one great grandson, John Dunlop and fourteen step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, daughter Sandra Kay Topf, sister, Doris Knudsen and brother, Robert.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2000 at Moorhead Christian Church, Moorhead, Iowa, with Rev. George Harrison and Evangelist John Lizer, officiating. Mary Lou Kratz was organist and Becky Marcum sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art".

Burial was in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa with Peter A. Hansen American Legion Post #365 conducting Military Rites.

Casket Bearers were Darrell Lawrenson, Russell Lawrensen, Jr., Ronald Lawrenson, Gordon Quitt, Jim Johnson, and Matt Aronson.

Visitation was Sunday, June 11, 2000 at Rush Family Chapel, in Onawa. A Masonic Service was conducted by Elk Lodge #586 AF & AM with Steve Jewett, orator followed by a prayer service with Evangelist John Lizer, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa.
