BATTLE CREEK, Iowa —Luverne Lew Scott, 82, of Battle Creek died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Barker Funeral Home in Holstein, Iowa, with the Rev. Benjamin Ray officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Mapleton, Iowa, with a flag presentation conducted by the Grimsley-Thayer Post 502 of Castana, Iowa.

Mr. Scott was born Aug. 10, 1915, in Holstein, the son of Oscar and Lucy (Kurtz) Scott. He attended country school in Logan Township in Holstein.

He married Gladys Schleer on Jan. 24, 1942, in Dakota City. The couple worked on farms in the Battle Creek area and later owned a farm at Mapleton. They retired to Mapleton and moved to Onawa, Iowa, Holstein and returned to Battle Creek. She died in 1995.

He was a 50 year member of the Castana Legion.

Survivors include a brother, Lee Scott of Correctionville, Iowa; and two sisters, Frances Ehlers of Holstein and Mildred Pattison of Ida Grove.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Ehlers.
