10 June 1998Oscar Melvin Hanson, 86, of Rodney, Iowa, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.
Mr. Hanson was born August 4, 1912, at Soldier, Iowa, the son of Ole T. and Mattia (Fjeld) Hanson. He attended high school at Soldier. On June 29, 1935, he married Eva Greenough at Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple farmed in the Soldier area before moving to a farm near
Rodney, Iowa, in 1944. Mrs. Hanson died January 30,1989, in Sioux City, Iowa.He attended the United Church of Christ in Rodney,
served on the Rodney School Board for six years, and served on the Farmers Home Administration Advisory Board in Mapleton for four years.He is survived by a son and his wife, Leonard and
Karen Hanson of Charter Oak, Iowa; three grandsons, Randy Hanson of Downey, CA., Kevin Bliss of Vermillion, South Dakota, and David Bliss of Smithville, Missouri; two granddaughters, Nancy Mulford of Fresno, CA., and Jamie Fister of Blencoe, Iowa; eight great grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Zelda Greenough of Sioux City, Iowa, Neola Greenough of Mapleton, Evva Mauch of Castana, Cora Hanson of Soldier, and Louise Hanson of Florida; and several nieces and 1 nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Guy, Henry, and Clarence Hanson; and two sisters, Emma Graetz and Mary Ulven.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 1, 1998, at the United Church of Christ at Rodney, Iowa, with Pastor Karen Handke officiating. The organist, Mrs. Ardith Armour, accompanied the vocalist, Mr. Jack Steinhoff, in the selections "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross".
Honorary bearers were Jim Davis, Jim McDonald, and Rich Uhl.
Casket bearers were Randy Hanson, Jim Mulford, Kevin Bliss, John Fister, David Bliss and Larry Smith.
Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton, Iowa, with arrangements by the Willman Funeral Home, Rodney, Iowa.
