CASTANA, Iowa — Ruby E. Johnson, 80, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Castana, died Monday, June 9, 1997, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa following a lengthy illness.

Services will be Thursday at Castana Community Church in Castana, with the Rev. Linda Boggs officiating. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mrs. Johnson was born May 2, 1917, in Castana, the daughter of Willis and Nellie (Maynard) Diddy. In 1935 she graduated from Castana
High School.

She married Harold Nels Johnson on Feb. 28, 1938, in Mapleton, Iowa. They lived and farmed in the Castana and Soldier area until they retired in 1969. Then they moved to Castana.

He died March 29, 1975, and she moved to the Elmwood Care Center in 1992.

She was a member of the Castana Community Church, where she was active in Ladies Aid and enjoyed helping with Bible school. She was a member of the Castana Thursday Club and a long-time member of the Jordan Birthday Club.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Darlene and Byron Kruse of Soldier, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Don and Kathy of Oto, Iowa, and Dale and Cyndie of Castana; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alma Hanson of Moorhead, Iowa; and a sister and two brothers in infancy.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Lowell and Keith Davis, Doug, Jeff, Mike, Chris and Corey Johnson and Eli Stephenson.
