Rev. George L. Harrison, 85, of Moorhead, Iowa died Friday, June 13, 2014 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Chandler, Arizona.

Memorial services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Moorhead Christian Church, Moorhead, Iowa with Rev. Michael Brown, officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery, rural Moorhead, Iowa. Visitation will be 9:30 A.M. until service time at the church on Saturday, July 12, 2014. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

George was born October 24, 1928 in rural Moorhead, Iowa the son of W. Hugh and Elizabeth "Beth" (Whitehead) Harrison. He was raised in the Moorhead area and graduated from Moorhead High School. George graduated from Minnesota Bible College, Lincoln Christian Seminary and Fort Hayes State College and became an ordained minister. He retired from 28 years of service at the Minnesota Department of Corrections at Lino Lakes as a Social Worker and served as a minister to many small Christian churches through the years in IA, MN, NE, TN, and Il. His life was spent ministering to others and loving his family and friends.

George was united in marriage to Francel Oliver in 1950-1965, Laurel Cakebread in1966-1977, Sue Makela in 1989-1992, and M. Eleanor (Hamman) DeLance on June 20, 1993 at the Moorhead Christian Church, Moorhead, IA.

George retired from ministry while serving the First Christian Church, Laurens, Iowa. George enjoyed spending his summers at his cabin in Ely, MN since 1987. George also enjoyed spending winters in Sun City, Arizona.

George was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church, Moorhead, IA and while in Arizona he attended the Sun City Christian Church and Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church in Sun City, AZ.

George spent the last 10 months of his life at Sunrise Assisted Living in Chandler, AZ. He made friends there with many of the residents as well as the nurses who helped care for him and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include a daughter, Emily Fair of Coon Rapids, MN; son, Wayne (Dr. Erin) Harrison of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Colton and Lindsey Fair of Coon Rapids, MN, and Emma and Sydney Harrison of Phoenix, AZ; Eleanor's children, Rose Mary, Barbara, Joni and Tom Jr.; two sisters, Ruth Hilary of Saint Michael, MN, and Priscilla (Jack) Wheeler of Brainerd, MN; brother, Allan (Carol) Harrison of Brainerd, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Hugh and Elizabeth "Beth", his wives, Francel (Oliver) Harrison and M. Eleanor (Hamman) Harrison; and a brother-in-law, Harland Hilary.
