8 October 1992Lucile Ellen Quitt, 78, of Onawa, Iowa, died Monday, September 28, 1992, at Elmwood Nursing Home in Onawa.
She was born June 1, 1914, in Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Gus and Sarah Ellen (Holbrook) Lamb. She married Ray Quitt on December 26, 1945, in Hanford, California. Mr. Quitt passed away April 16, 1976, in Onawa.
She taught school for 26 years in Iowa and California. Her teaching career began in rural Monona County in a one room school house. Several years were spent in the Little Sioux/West Harrison elementary system. Her teaching career was concluded in the Dow City/Arion system.
During her career and in retirement she enjoyed writing poetry. Her love of family, writing and music were her trademarks.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Gordon and Nancy Quitt and two grandchildren, Spencer and Cammie, all of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Clarence and Charlie; and two sisters, Maudie Poling and Ethel Oakland.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 1992, at First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Bryan Myers officiating. The organist was Mrs. Vince Phillips and Cammie Quitt played "I Surrender All". Dwight Lamb and Adair Kaehlar played, "Hymm Medley" and Rev. Bryan and Diane Myers sang, "I Won't Have To Cross Jordan Alone" and "The Old Rugged Cross Makes The Difference".
Casket bearers were Donald Lamb, Dwight Lamb, Dan Tuinstra, Todd Poling, Tab Lamb and Aaron Woodard.
Interment was in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa with arrangements by Pearson Funerall Home, Onawa, Iowa.
