FORMER RESIDENT OF MAPLETON SUCCUMBS

MRS. ARTHUR C. MELTON SENDS DETAILS OF DEATH OF MRS. NORMAN ANDRESS—NEE EVALINE ALLEN.

The Press received the following communication Tuesday from Mrs. Arthur C. Melton, of Shell Lake, Wis.

"Dear Editor: I am enclosing the obituary of a former resident of Mapleton. [The obituary follows this letter.] As there are many relatives and friends still there, I am sure they will be glad to have it printed in the home paper.

"The Press comes here to my father-in-law and we all enjoy it, having spent many of our years at Mapleton. He is 81 years old and still reads and enjoys the paper. I hope it is not too late to obtain a copy of Mr. Whiting's anniversary booklets. Mr. Melton came to Mapleton's vicinity in 1850 and the booklet will be a pleasure for him. He enjoyed your anniversary edition as he had not enjoyed anything else in years. I do not believe there are many left of the early pioneers that are as old as he. Mrs. Arthur C. Melton, Madge Star Rout, Shell Lake, Wis."

Here is the obituary to which Mrs. Melton referred:

Evaline Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Allen, was born at O'Neil, Nebr., November 24, 1886 and died at a hospital in Rice Lake, Wis., on Saturday, November 10.

She was married to John C. Powell at Onawa, Ia., July 5, 1904. To this union were born four children, Opal, William, Echo and Evelyn. Mr. Powell died on November 29, 1920.

On November 14, 1922, she was united in marriage to Norman Andress, at Spooner, and to them were born two children, Norma Jean and Allen John.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, six children, three grandchildren, father and mother, sisters and brothers and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held from the M. E. church, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. C. Paul Nulton officiating. Interment was made in the Shell Lake cemetery.
