Marjorie V. Melby, 73, of Castana, IA, died Thursday, May 5, 1994, at her residence near Castana.

Mrs. Melby was born May 29, 1920, at Castana, IA, the daughter of Otha and Mary (Welsh) Karr. On November 25, 1939, she married Cleo Melby at Logan, IA. The couple farmed at Soldier, IA, then moved to a farm near Castana in 1952.

She was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Cleo; three sons and their wives, Eugene and Shirley, Roger and Sharon, and Russell and Cindy, all of Castana; two daughters and their husbands, Janet and Dennis Nelson of Onawa, IA, and Janice and Terry Payne of Wooldridge, MO; a sister, Mrs. Glenn (Cordella) McCall of Onawa; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clarence and Leonard; four sisters, Lena Gross, Edna Leisinger, Ethel Strong and Bertha Hutchinson; and a grandson, Ronnie Davis.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 1994, at the First Christian Church in Onawa with Rev. Donald R. Ludwick officiating.

The organist, Mrs. Vince Phillips, accompanied a vocal duet, Mrs. Harvey Hanson and Mrs. Brady Hanson, in the selections "Beyond The Sunset" and "Just A Closer Walk With Three".

Casket bearers were Phillip Melby, Todd Melby, Stephen Melby, Allen Melby, John Melby, Kenneth Davis, Michael Payne, Jeremy Payne, Russell Payne and Chad Melby.

Honorary bearers were Brenda Kuhlmann, Rebecca Purcell, Kysa Melby and Kami Nelson.

Interment was in the Center Cemetery at Castana, IA, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, IA.
