Mrs. Mayme R. Melby, Houston, Texas, passed away in Houston on November 12, 1972. She had reached the age of 83 years, 6 months and 8 days.
Mayme Rosella Berg was born May 4, 1889 at Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sever Berg. She was married to Lewis Melby on April 15, 1908 at Soldier. Mr. Melby passed away in 1955.
For the past year and nine months she had made her home with her daughter in Texas. She was a member of the Lutheran Church in Soldier.
Survivors are one son, Lorris Melby of Cheyenne, Wyo,; two daughters, Mrs. Cecil (Clara) Brady of Houston, Texas and Mrs. Dennis (Mabel) Butler of Seattle Wash.; four sisters, Mrs. Aubrey Lester, Interior, S. D., Mrs. Ella Nordaker, and Mrs. Pauline Tanberg both of Soldier and Mrs. Johanna Kelley of Danbury, Iowa. There are nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 1972 at the Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa with Pastor Arnold Mathisen officiating. He also sang, "In The Garden," and "God Understands," accompanied by Mrs. Harry Andersen.
Bearers were Harlow Wingate, Ray Baier, Milford Nordaker, Maurice Graetz, Aubrey Lester and Howard Nordaker.
Interment was in the Soldier Valley Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier.
