Sadie Clara Melby, a lifetime resident of the Soldier, Iowa area passed away on May 27, 1975. She had reached the age of 81 years, 6 months and 17 days.

She was born on November 10, 1893, the daughter of Ole and Gunda Skilbried Nelson. She was united in marriage to John Melby on October 16, 1912, at Onawa, Iowa.

Sadie was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, John of Soldier, Ia.; three sons, Milton and Howard of Soldier; and Cleo of Castana, Ia.; two daughters, Mrs. Earl (LaVerne) Rustin of Soldier and Mrs. Morris (Deloris) Rustin of Whiting, Ia.; 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; one brother, Henry Nelson of Ute, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Steen of Mapleton, Ia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, one son, two granddaughters, two grandsons, one brother, and one sister.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, 1975, at the Soldier Lutheran Church at Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor William G. Carter officiating. Becky Johnson was the organist. The song selections, "Rock of Ages" and "How Great Thou Art" were sung by a quartet: Gene Brenden, James Severson, Gordon Foss, and Gordon Swenson.

Bearers were Harvey Leisenger, Donald Rustin, Roger Melby, Eugene Melby, Bryan Melby, Kevin Melby, Terry Melby, and Russell Melby.

Interment took place in the Soldier Valley Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home at Onawa, Iowa.
