15 September 1988Earl Willi Melby, 70, Moorhead, Iowa; died Friday, September 9, 1988, in Pisgah, Iowa, of an apparent heart attack.
He was born December 8, 1917, in rural Moorhead to Oscar and Christina (Lundberg) Melby. On January 11, 1947, he married Mildred Irene Price in Onawa, Iowa.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a lifelong area farmer. Mrs. Melby died May 7, 1983, at Onawa.
He was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church and the VFW Post #5605 of Ute.
Survivors include one son, Maynard and wife, Kay, of Moorhead; one daughter, Barbara and husband, Larry Ruffcorn, of Blencoe; three brothers, Raymond of LeMars, Clark of Dunlap, and Wilbur of Pisgah; one sister, Mrs. Ella Schlensig of Soldier and five grandchildren, Rozlynn, Angela, Travis, Kari and Chad.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harry, Robert and Norman; one sister, Olga and one grandson, Jason Ruffcorn.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 1988, at the Soldier Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Sydow officiating. Mrs. Ivan Gibbs was the organist. The Men's Quartet, Craig Swenson, Gordon Foss, Stan Hansen and Marc Clemon, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art" accompanied by Mrs. Ken Stallons.
Honorary bearers were Lyle Savery, Cliff McHugh, Vernon Knutson and Herman Kalskett.
Active bearers were David Winegar, Vernon Melby, Rick Melby, Leland Lantz, Charles Cox and Randy Melby.
Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery with Military Graveside Services by V.F.W. Post #5605 of Ute, Iowa, Bud Leisinger, Commander.
