Mrs. Delphine H. Meier, age 71, of Mapleton, Iowa, died on Saturday, March 12, 1988, at a Sioux City, Iowa, hospital.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 1988, in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Reverend John Brennan officiating. Merlin Whiteing was the soloist.

Burial was in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation was after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 1988, with the rosary recited by the Rosary Society at 3:30 p.m. and by the parish at 7:30 p.m. in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Mrs. Meier, the former Delphine Nielsen, was born on December 29, 1916, to John and Mary (Baagoe) Nielsen in Mapleton, Iowa, and was raised in the Mapleton community. She married Edward Meier on April 21, 1941, in Danbury, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Danbury community and she also operated the City Cafe in Danbury, Iowa, for thirteen years. She also worked in cafes in Battle Creek, Iowa. In 1974, they moved to Mapleton, Iowa, where she worked for the Paramount Cafe and also the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Mrs. Meier was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, and the Royal Neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Kurt of Davenport, Iowa; a daughter, Roxanne Meier of Mapleton, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Vincent (Loretta) Meier of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Mrs. James (DeVilda) Collins of Danbury, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bob Meier, Ronald Meier, Richard Meier, Ed Collins, Ted Collins, and Larry Scoenfeld.
