Dora Meevers, the daughter of Henry and Wilhelmine Kuehlsen, was born on July 18, 1892, in Fehmarn, Germany. She came to the United States and to Charter Oak, Iowa, with her parents at the age of two. She married Harvey Meevers on September 23, 1914, in Soldier Township, Crawford County. To this marriage a daughter, Edna, was born on June 19, 1915. A sad moment in this life came at her death on May 15, 1918, at the age of two years, ten months, and twenty-nine days. The couple farmed in the Mapleton area until 1955, when they retired and moved into town. Harvey died on December 14, 1963.
Dora Meevers died on Monday, December 19, 1988, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa, where she resided for the past seventeen years, having reached the age of 96 years, five months, and one day.
Mrs. Meevers was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, Iowa, and the Women's Fellowship of the church.
Survivors include cousins, Harvey Hintz and Lydia Hintz, both of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Loren Hintz of Center, Nebraska, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frances Sonksen of Mapleton, Iowa.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter, Edna.
Services were held on Thursday, December 22, 1988, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, Iowa, with Reverend Richard Hempenius officiating. The burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City, Iowa.
Pallbearers were Bill Hagerdon, Herman Bockelmann, Don Willson, Louis Kuehl, John Zediker, and Lee McCall. Arrangements were made by the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa.
