MAPLETON, Iowa - Earl A. Means, 73, Mapleton, died Friday in a Mapleton nursing home of long illness.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Walter Funeral Home at Mapleton. The Rev. Dr. Martin Mosier will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Mapleton.

Mr. Means was born June 2, 1906, near Castana. He married Alma Marie Ernst Dec. 18, 1924, at Mapleton. They farmed in the Mapleton and Castana community. He retired in 1969, but remained on
the farm. Because of ill health, he entered the nursing home three years ago.

Mrs. Means died April 6, 1971.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Elmer(Margaret) Wacheldorf, and a son, Marvin, both of Mapleton; three sisters, Mrs. Josephine Davis of Onawa, and Mrs. Beulah Mitchell and Mrs. Mildred Andresen, both of Sioux City; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
