Loren Means, Castana Resident Died Saturday

Loren E. Means was born October 11, 1888, at Castana, Iowa, the son of John and Margaret Means and passed from this life at his home in Castana on Saturday morning November 8, 1958, at the age of 70 years and 20 days.

He had been a lifetime resident of the Castana community where he had engaged in farming in his
early life and later was a tank wagon agent for the Standard Oil for 22 years. After retirement from that work he again took up farming until his retirement.

He had been in failing health for the past several months.

He was united in marriage with Martha Hades on May 25, 1925, at Onawa, Iowa. To this union two sons were born, Don and Dale.

Mr. Means was a veteran of World War I, where he served in the U.S. Army. He was an active member of the Grimsley - Thayer Post of the American Legion No 502 of Castana.

Survivors include his wife Martha; two sons, Don of Sioux City and Dale at Castana; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Means, residing at Sioux City, Ia..; six sisters, Mrs. Florence Hoe, Mrs.Beulah Gearen and Mrs. Millie Andresen, all of Sioux City, Mrs. Josie Davis and Mrs. Mabel Cooper, both of Onawa, and Mrs. Ida Davis of Denison, Ia.; two brothers, Marl and Adolph Means, both of Mapleton and he is also survived by three grand daughters, a number of other relative's and many friends who will miss this good neighbor and kind friend.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 10th at 2 p.m. at the Community Church in Castana with Rev. Ralph Oman conducting the services.

Evan Davies sang "Abide with Me" and "The Lord's Prayer" accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Evan Davies. Mrs. Ed Miller and Mrs. Park Struble were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Casket bearers were Glenn McCormick, Arthur Mountain, Herman Erlandson, Harold Baker, Albin Carlson and John Williamson. Interment was in the Center Cemetery where the Grimsley-Thayer Post No. 502 American Legion, Arvid Erlandson, Commander, conducted Military rites.
