Means rites held Nov. 24

Grover Cleveland Means, son of Frank N. and Lucretia Davis Means, was born in Monona County, Iowa March 3, 1889 and died at his home in Riverton November 24 age 89 years, following a decline in health for several months. He moved with his parents to Fremont County when about 10 years old, to a log cabin north of Hamburg. Most of his life was spent in farming and even as a small child he followed his father in the fields He was united in marriage to Myrtle King on August 5, 1911 and to this union one daughter Marjorie, was born.

Mr. Means retired from farming in 1962 and they moved to Riverton. In 1971 they observed their 60th wedding anniversary. He spent many hours working the yard and garden at his home until the past year when his health and eyesight began to fail.

He was preceded in death by his wife in March 1975, his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Marjorie and son-in-law Robert Zach; Riverton; 3 grandchildren, Keith Zach, Newton, Charlotte Laymon, Waterloo, Patricia Zach, Sidney, 6 great-grandchildren, and four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Baker, Nebraska City; Mrs. Frances Hickman, Omaha; Mrs. Rosa Tooly, Hastings, NE and Mrs. Annie Reed, Sidney, and nieces and nephews.

Funeral rites were held Monday November 27 at Shull Funeral Home conducted by Roy Wingate and Clarence Schaffner, Hamburg. Music was by the Mrs. Paul McMullen, Reid Jones, Robert Schaeffer, Howard Speigel, Mullen and Dennis Koso. Flowers were cared for by the Mrs. Caroline Tysor, Don Eggers, and Reid Jones. Mrs. Blanche Ryan had charge of the memory book.

Casket bearers were Paul McMullen, Reid Jones, Robert Schaeffer, Howard Speigel, Dale Aspedon and Glen Davis. Burial was in Riverton cemetery. Ladies of the Church of Christ served coffee to the family at the church following the rites at the cemetery.
