CASTANA, Iowa — Anna Marie Simpson, 94, of Sioux City, formerly of Castana, died Friday at her residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Edgar Bode officiating. Burial will be in Kennebec Cemetery in Castana. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa. Memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City with the Rev. Elwood Rieke officiating.

Mrs. Simpson was born Feb. 1, 1903, at Viborg, S.D., the daughter of Martin and Anna Marie (Christensen) Johnson.

She married Walter Simpson on Dec. 15, 1921, at Viborg. The couple farmed in Viborg until 1936 and in Onawa until 1943 when they moved to Castana. He died Dec. 12, 1979. Due to ill health she moved to Sioux City in 1994 to live with her daughter.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, the Lois Circle of Lutheran Church Women, the Quilting Group for Lutheran World Relief and served as a lamp lighter for the church. She was also a member of G.A.R.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, LaVerne and Wilma of Whiting, Iowa and Gene and Donna of Long Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Norma Miller of Castana and Mona and her husband, Jack Graham of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Lillian Simpson of Onawa; 21 grandchildren; 26, great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Walter Jr. and Kenneth; two grandsons, Trent and Larry Simpson; five brothers, Marvin, Merle, Donald, Wilbert and Glenn; a sister, Shirley Larsen; and a son-in-law, Earl Miller.
