TURIN, Iowa — Vernon Earl Brown, 79, of Turin died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997, at a St. Luke's Medical Center at Sioux City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church at Turin, with the Rev. David H. Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery, rural Turin. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the Pearson Funeral Home at Onawa, Iowa.

Mr. Brown was born June 20, 1917, near Turin, to Had and Ruby (Baker). He graduated from Onawa High School in 1935. He attended Iowa State College, where he was a member of Delta Chi fraternity and participated in ROTC. He married Esther Laursen on Sept. 9, 1945. She died Jan. 7, 1978, at Sioux City. He married Joan Christensen on Aug. 4, 1984, at Onawa. He was a fourth generation member of a Monona County farm family and retired in 1986. He was a community leader and was involved in County and State Farm Bureau, as well as other agriculture-related organizations, the Republican party, and the Monona County Fair Board.

He was a member of the Turin Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; two daughters, Carole of Omaha, Neb., Emilie and her husband, David Ellingson of Lincoln, Neb; a son and his wife, Earl and Donna of Roland, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Jill Rice of Omaha; a stepson, Robert K. Hagadorn II of Omaha; three granddaughters, Lauren and Carrie Ellingson, and Marie; and a grandson, Chris Ellingson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Esther; a sister, Shirley Nutt; and a brother, Harl Brown Jr.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Turin United Methodist Church and the Humane Society.
