UTE, Iowa — Elvin Leo Johnson, 77, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at his home in rural Ute.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute with Pastor Edgar Bode officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery in Ute. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 11, 1921, near Soldier, Iowa, the son of Adam Oscar and Gertrude (Hemminger) Johnson.

He attended country schools in the Ute and Moorhead areas and furthered his education at Moorhead High School.

He married Ruby Ehlers May 31, 1946, in Wathena, Kan. They farmed in the Ute area until retiring in 1987.

He loved farming and enjoyed playing cards and traveling.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Roger of Ute and Rodney and his wife, Jan, of Soldier; a brother, Gene of Chico, Calif.; three grandchildren, Lisa and her husband, Randy Steffen, of Charter Oak, Iowa, Eric of Bedford, Texas, and Scott of Ames, Iowa; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kevin and a sister, Leona Loriviere.
