Wm. R. Meadows Rites Held

William R. Meadows, 91, Onawa, a resident of the Soldier community for 43 years, died Thursday, August 16. He had been ill for about a week and a patient at the hospital since the Saturday before his death. He had lived in Onawa the past 15 years.

Mr. Meadows was an extremely hard working man and reared a large family on the farm northeast of Soldier.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 18 at 2:00 p. m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Onawa with Rev. John C. Kilde of Soldier conducting the services. Mrs. Bryce Lee gave comfort in song accompanied by Miss Agnes Johnson.

Bearers were grandsons of Mr. Meadows, Norman, Ronnie And Wilmer Meadows, Gordon Clemon, Bryce Lee and DeWayne Messenbrink. Interment was in the St. Clair cemetery at Ute with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home.

William R. Meadows was born in Lee, Indiana, August 17, 1865, the son of Richard B. and Lydia Meadows. He passed away at Onawa, Iowa August 16, 1956 and lacked one day of reaching his 91st birthday.

At the age of nine years he moved with his parents to Kansas City, Kansas and later to Omaha, Nebr. where he lived for a time. In the year 1892 he and his family moved to a farm five miles south of Ute, Iowa where he lived 43 years.

He retired from the farm and moved to Onawa in 1941 where he resided until his death.

He was united in marriage with Jennie E. Brawley, February 26 1891 at Omaha, Nebr. To this union 14 children were born.

He was preceded in death by two sons and two daughters, three dying in infancy and Edward in 1948. Also two sisters, Jennie and Louise, preceded him in death.

Survivors include Mrs. Edna Meyer, Denison; Mrs. Effie Olson, Castana; Mrs. Rose Lee, Soldier; Ray of Sioux City; Mrs. Mae Jerup of Chicago; Mrs. Hazel Mesenbrink, Moorhead; Allen and Cecil of Ute; Launie and Lyle of Soldier; his widow, Jennie, of Onawa and one sister, Mrs. Mae Spotswood of Bishop, Calif.; also 44 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren, besides a number of other relatives and a host of
friends.
