Frances Lucille Meadows 1921 - 2000

Frances Lucille Meadows was born on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa, August 6, 1921, the daughter of Abner Reynold and Frieda Bern Larson. As an infant, she was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak. She was raised on the farm and received her education in the Charter Oak School. After completing the 8th grade she was employed doing domestic work for several area farm families where she acquired her love for cooking.

On June 22, 1941, Frances was united in marriage with Lyle L. Meadows at Dakota City, Nebraska.
Their union was blessed with three children, Gary, Karen and Karol.

They made their home on a farm near Soldier where together they raised their family and farmed until moving into Soldier when they retired in 1985.

Lyle died July 19, 1986. Frances continued to reside in Soldier where she enjoyed her lifelong love of flowers, spending many hours working in her flower garden and with potted plants. Blessed with the ability to read a recipe and tell if it would be good. She enjoyed cooking and baking and graciously sharing her culinary treats with family and friends. Other hobbies that occupied her time included embroidery and quilting, having made quilts of her grandchildren. In earlier years she spent countless hours canning meat, fruit and vegetables for her family to enjoy.

In 1997 Frances moved to Denison and due to failing health, for the past few months had resided at the Denison Care Center. Frances died early Saturday, January 15, 2000 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 78 years, 5 Months and 9 days.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ute.

Including her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Larson.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include her three children and their spouses, Gary and Dee Meadows of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Karen and Roger Mefferd of St. Petersburg, Florida and Karol and John Hast of Denison, eight grandchildren, Lyle Jon Meadows, Leanne Joy Ceriotti, Angela Mefferd, Nichole Mefferd, Jim Allen, Pamella Crawford, Jennifer Preul and Teresa Prince, six great grandchildren, one brother, Marvin Larson and wife, Donna of Ute, Iowa, one sister, Ninnette Beningsdorf of Boone, Iowa, brother-in-law, Launie Meadows and wife, Mabel of Onawa, Iowa, one sister-in-law, Betty Larson of Boone, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 18, 2000 at the Denison Baptist Church, Denison, Iowa with the Rev. Art Anderson officiating. Music for the service was provided by Kim Petersen singing "In the Garden", "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross Made The Difference" with Mary Jane Petersen serving as organist.

Casket bearers included Robert Crawford, Gary Ceriotti, Johnny Larson, Roger Meadows, Norman Meadows and James Robbins. Interment was at the St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. The Ptannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
