Betty C. Fletcher, 90, Onawa, died Sunday, January 12, 1997, at Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa.

She was born April 18, 1906, near Sloan, IA, the daughter of Andrew J. and Selma (Youngstrom) Carlson. She married Dale Fletcher March 12, 1925, at Sioux City. The couple farmed in the Whiting and Sloan area until 1953. They farmed at Soldier until moving into Onawa in 1970. Mr. Fletcher died October 14, 1970, at Onawa. She had been a housekeeper for Elmwood Nursing Home, Wood Funeral Home in Sloan and several private homes.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Ladies Circle.

Survivors include one son, Wayne and his wife, Joanne Fletcher of Chariton, Iowa; three daughters, Jana Barnes of Salix, Cleta and her husband Bernard Nipp, Downing, California, and Betty and her husband Tony Swanson of Sloan; 22 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; one sister, Ruby Morton of Whiting; and two sister-in-laws, Goldie Carlson of Onawa and Frances Fletcher of Whiting, and a son-in-law, Don Barnes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one son, Denny; two brothers, Edwin and Howard, and two sisters, Florence Wilson and Leona Everson.

Services were held Wednesday, January 15, 1997, at Faith Lutheran Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Steven C. Hetzel officiating. Mrs. Syril Brown, organist, accompanied the congregation in singing the hymns "My Hope Is Built On Nothing Lee" and "Rock of Ages".

Casket Bearers were Brian Fletcher, Brad Fletcher, David Fletcher, Rick Swanson, Randy Swanson, Dan Barnes, and Michael Fletcher.

Interment was at the Harrison Cemetery near Whiting, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
