OBITUARY OF DONALD E. KUEHL, JR.

Donald E. Kuehl, Jr., of Blencoe, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 3, 1997, at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.

Mr. Kuehl was born on July 7, 1925, at Little Sioux, Iowa, the son of Donald and Myrtle (Bothwell) Kuehl, Sr., He attended school at Little Sioux and served in the navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. On December 10, 1945, he married Darlene Nikolaison in Onawa. The couple lived in the Blencoe area where Junior worked for the Blencoe and Whiting Elevators applying fertilizer and chemicals until retiring in 1985. Mrs. Kuehl died on May 28, 1996, at Onawa.

He was a 50-year member of the Stevens-Kelley American Legion Post #665 at Blencoe and the Monona County V.F.W. Post #2694 of Onawa.

Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Kathie and Dale Hagge of Littleton, Colorado; two sons, Tom of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Steven and his wife, Connie of Phenix City, Alabama; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Glen and Alice Kuehl of Gravois Mills, Missouri; six sisters, Miss Donna Kuehl of Onawa, Norma Caldwell of Aurora, Colorado, Maxine Kuehl of San Luis Obispo, California, Leota and her husband, Milton Sorenson of North Sioux City, South Dakota, Sharon and her husband, Perry Thrift of Whiting, Iowa, Linda and her husband, Lynn Reed of Onawa; several nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Iris Kuehl of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and a step grandmother, Nora Gundersen of Whiting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one brother, Harold.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 1997, at the United Church of Christ in Blencoe, Iowa, with Rev. Earle R. Potts officiating. The organist was Mrs. Robert Collison, Jr., and the vocalist, Mr. Clint Walker, sang the selections, "Amazing Grace" and "In the Garden".

Casket bearers were Logan Butcher, Francis Reed, Skip Cartmell, Ronald Heisterkamp, Hugh Gray, and Max Nikolaison.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe, Iowa, with Military Rites by the Monona County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2694, Onawa, Iowa, Gordon Conway, Commander. Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
