SOLDIER, Iowa — Wilmer "Pepsi" Knutson Jr., 73, of Soldier died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Soldier Lutheran Church. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. Visitation will be to 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church. Pearson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Knutson was born June 24, 1927, in Soldier, the son of Wilmer C. "Pete" and Mary (Riddle) Knutson. He graduated from Soldier High School and farmed near Soldier until entering the
U.S. Navy during World War II, serving as ship's cook third class.

After his discharge, he worked in construction and was a general laborer at Worldwide Packing Plant in Denison, Iowa, until his retirement. He married Bernice Plueger McClintock Dec. 30, 1968, in Luverne, Minn.

He was confirmed at Soldier Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of the Soldier Valley American Legion Post 462 at Soldier, and was presently a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5605 in Ute.

Survivors include his wife; eight children, Bruce and his wife, Lisa of Le Mars, Anna and her husband, James Grell of Danbury, Iowa, Monica and her husband, Travis McAlpin of Norwalk, Iowa, Donnie of Sioux Falls, Nancy McLaughlin of Aurelia, Iowa, Shirley and her husband, Doug Radtke of Sioux Falls, Linda and her husband,Tom Ambrose of Fairbury, Ill., and Karen and her husband, Michael Reed of Greeley, Colo.; a step-daughter, Lori Johnson of LeMars; a brother and his wife, Russell and Donna Knutson of Boone, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Barbara and Lyle Wallin of Laurens, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
