Active member of Ute Lutheran church dies

Ralph Teut, age 91, of Ute, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Mapleton, Iowa.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute with Pastor Edgar Bode officiating.

Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute. Creta Teut was the organist for the service and St. Paul's Choir sang, "How Great Thou Art". The congregation
sang, "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". A prayer service was held 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Ralph Emil Otto Teut was born March 8, 1909, in Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Herman and Anna (Wiedemann) Teut. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith September 19, 1909 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Charter Oak, Iowa where he was also confirmed on March 6, 1923. He received his education at Crawford County Number 6 Immanuel Lutheran Country School, graduating on August 29, 1925. He worked for Crawford County for nine years operating a maintainer and snowplow.

On December 20, 1933, Ralph was united in marriage to Ruth Ella Helen Engelke at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple engaged in farming until 1972 when the couple retired and moved into town. After retiring, Ralph did carpenter and repair work.

He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute where he served as an Elder, trustee and an active member of AAL and LLL as well as a member of the Friendship Club. He was also a trustee of St. Clair Township, a town councilman, and was a Bank Director at the Ute State Bank since 1969.

Those survivors left to cherish Ralph's memory include Ruth, his wife of 66 years; two sons and their wives, Eldon and Creta Teut of Ute, Iowa and Oran and Becky Teut of Monroe, Iowa; one daughter and her husband, Sharon and Jack Pope of Ute, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Erna Nihsen and her husband, Gilbert of Ricketts, Iowa and Ruby Waderich of Mapleton, Iowa; and one brother, Everett Teut and his wife, Betty of Omaha, Nebraska, along with many other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, Herb, Elmer, Melvin, Arlo, Kermit, Waldo, Orville, and Raymond and two sisters, Edna and Evelyn.

Honorary pallbearers were Walt Nun, Johannes Petersen, Swede Aronson, Fred Soukup, Don Petersen, Harry Suckstorf and Benny Schmieder.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Todd Teut, Paul Teut, Brian Carter, Mark Teut, Nathan Teut and Randy Carter.

Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Layman League in Ralph's honor.
