Doris Irene Kiertzner, 79, of Sioux City died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at a Flint, Mich., hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Larkin Northside Funeral Home in Sioux City, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Township Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kiertzner was born April 12, 1921, in Ute, the daughter of Albert and Sarah (Shipley)Dahlberg.

She graduated from Ute High School and attended Columbia University in New York for four years in the nursing program.

She had lived in the Philippines, California and Iowa. She was employed with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Sioux City.

She was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Sioux City.

Survivors include a son, James A. Kiertzner of Flint, Mich.; a daughter and her husband, Marilyn G. and Michael Welter of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Rebecca and Kelly Kiertzner and Brandon and Mitch Welter; a great-granddaughter; and a sister and her husband, Carol and Glenn Ullerich of Ute.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlo Kiertzner.
