Bernard "Whitey" Bridgeman, age 63, of Ute, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Sioux City, Iowa.

Services were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6 at the United Methodist Church in Ute, Iowa, with Pastor Ken Baughman officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute. Joyce Hanson was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute, Iowa.

Bernard "Whitey" Richard Bridgeman was born December 13, 1936, in Lincoln Township, Monona County, Iowa, to Charles Richard and Elsie Opal (Hayes) Bridgeman. He attended several Monona County country schools and lived in the Mapleton and Castana, Iowa areas until moving to Ute in 1942. He graduated with the Ute High School class of 1956.

He served in the United States Army National Guard for three years. He worked for various construction companies and was employed with Godbersen-Smith Construction, Ida Grove, Iowa, for the last 30 years.

On August 19, 1967, Whitey was united in marriage to Claretta Boden at Moorhead, Iowa.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and rodeos but his greatest pleasure was found with his family and laughing.

Those survivors left to cherish 'Whitey's memory include Claretta Bridgeman, his wife of 32 years; four children, Ellen Boden of Tyndall, South Dakota, Ray Boden and his wife, Karen of Beresford, South Dakota, Bill Boden and his wife, Sus of Tabor, South Dakota, and John Boden and his wife, Mary of Springfield, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, four brothers, Robert Bridgeman, Sr., of Mapleton, Iowa, Donald Bridgeman, Willard "Red" Bridgeman, and Verlin "Butch" Bridgeman, all of Ute, Iowa, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, neighbors and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Larry Boden and Jeffery Bridgeman.

Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren, Tera Boden, Kim Boden, Randy Quartier, Amber Boden, Amanda Boden, Christina Quartier, Jesse Boden and Richard Johnson.

Pallbearers were Larry Soden, Matthew Boden, Dan Bridgeman, Andrew Boden, Charles Bridgeman and Robert Bridgeman Jr.
