Ervin A. Jahn, age 84, of Gillette, Wyoming, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Gillette.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 10 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, with Pastor Edgar Bade officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Ruth Owens was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "Abide With Me", "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 9 at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Ervin August Jahn was born August 26, 1915 to Carl and Dora (Timm) Jahn at Ute, Iowa. He was baptized on September 19, 1915 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. He attended the Lutheran Parochial School and was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. On June 15, 1939, Ervin was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Gran at St. Paul's Lutheran Church parsonage, Rev. Hugo Neiting officiating.

They lived on the family farm north of Ute until 1955 when they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he was employed by Everitt Lumber Company. In 1963, they purchased the Coast to Coast Store in Wheatland, Wyoming. They moved to Gillette, Wyoming, the home of their daughter, Carol, in 1977. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June of 1999.

Ervin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Gillette at the time of his death. He enjoyed his work with the Lutheran churches in the communities in which he lived. He served on the Senior Center Board of Directors in Gillette, Wyoming during the time the present building was being constructed.

Those survivors left to cherish Ervin's memory include his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Carol Faye Jahn of Gillette, Wyoming and Maxine Jahn Riley and her husband, Robert Steadman Riley of Augusta, Georgia; one grandson, David James Jahn of Joliet, Illinois; one granddaughter, Pamela Reynolds Slawson and her husband, Scott Alan Slawson of Atlanta, Georgia; one great granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Slawson of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother, Walter Jahn and his wife, Edna of Ute, Iowa; one sister, Erma and her husband, Louis Sander of Ute, Iowa, along with many nieces and nephews.

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Herbert Jahn; two sisters, Lydia Jahn and Arlene (Jahn) Rude.

Pallbearers were David Jahn, Norman Eggen, Craig Friedrichs, Gailen Gran, Dennis Jahn, Gary Jespersen, Roger Rude, Brent Friedrichs, Austin Gran, Jim Gran, Evan Jahn, Ronald Rude and Dale Stockfleth.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute in Ervin's name.
