Longtime resident of area dies March 23

Mamie J. Scott, age 93, of Ute died Thursday, March 23, 2000 at Mapleton, Iowa.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 28 at the United Methodist Church in Ute with Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute. Joyce Hanson was the organist for the service and music was "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross". A prayer service was held Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Mamie Jane Scott was born July 28, 1906, at Oakland, Iowa, the daughter of Silas and Clara (Haines) Hayes. She moved with her family to the Mapleton and Rodney, Iowa areas. On December 31, 1947, Mamie was united in marriage to Reece Collins Scott at Denison, Iowa. The couple resided in the Ute, Iowa community. Reece died April 18, 1980.

Mamie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ute.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include one daughter and her husband, Connie and Jim Johnson of Ute, Iowa; three sons and their wives, Harold and Frances Scott of Pittsburg, California, Gaylord and Carol Scott of Cloves, Mississippi and Howard and Betty Scott of Henderson, Nevada; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one
brother, Harry Hayes of Red Oak, Iowa; two sisters, Clara Martz and her husband, Jim of Ute, Iowa and Ellen Hopkins of Mapleton, Iowa, along with many other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Along with her husband, Mamie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Joseph and Elmer; three sisters, Lillie Bridgeman, Myrtle Brandon and Elsie Bridgeman and one grandson, Bobby Scott.

Pallbearers were Verlin "Butch" Bridgeman, Willard "Red" Bridgeman, Wayne Johnson, Bob Bridgeman, Don Martz and Jimmie Johnson.
