William Claus Knutzen was born August 5, 1905, eight miles south of Ute, Iowa, the son of Claus and Rosa (Holtorf) Knutzen. He spent his boyhood days on the family farm. He attended rural Soldier School No. 6 near his home except for one year when he went to Denison parochial school and was confirmed in 1921. William then returned to live with his parents and his brother. He helped on the family farm with horses where many long hard hours of work were spent.

They farmed for 45 years and retired on the same farm where they built their new home in 1952. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary January 2, 1979 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute where they were members. Ivy died November 21, 1987.

In his leisure time, William found enjoyment in fishing.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include one daughter and her husband, Ruth and Wesley Seieroe of Ute, Iowa; one grandson, Rick Seieroe, also of Ute and one granddaughter, Carolyn Seieroe of Onawa, Iowa, along with other relatives, neighbors and friends.
