ONAWA, Iowa — Lester C. Saxen, 76, of Onawa died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at the Pleasant view Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Pearson Funeral Chapel in Onawa with the Rev. Donald R. Ludwick, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Saxen was born Aug. 31, 1922, in rural Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Carl and Lena (Schutt) Saxen. He attended Castana and Mapleton schools.

He married Florence McShannon on Nov. 19, 1942 in Dakota City, Neb. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was an auto mechanic at the Onawa Sinclair Station. He lived in California, Texas and Iowa before retiring in 1985 and returning to Onawa to live.

He was a member of the Monona County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2694, Onawa.

Survivors include his wife, a son, John of Onawa; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Loral Jean Lambert, 1993, five brothers, Alfred, Thomas, Howard, Leonard, and Edwin; and a sister, Mabel Schumacher.
