UTE, Iowa — Philip J. McAndrews, 77, of Ute died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at the Dunlap Care Center in Dunlap, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, Iowa, with the Rev. Ben Jensen officiating.

Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Aaby Post 442 of Ute and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5605 of Ute. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Mr. McAndrews was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Defiance, Iowa, the son of Philip F. and Mary (Carey) McAndrews. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He attended St. Peters Catholic School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Red Bulls 34th Division in Europe and the Mid-East Theater.

He married Pauline Gaul on Sept. 9, 1946 in Earling, Iowa. They farmed until 1956. In June 1960, they moved to Ute, where he was employed with Monona County for 24 years. He entered the Dunlap Care Center in January 1994.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife; seven sons, Mike and his wife Chris of Blencoe, Iowa, Joe and his wife Pam of Aurora, Neb., Pat of Sioux City, Steve and his wife Patti of Stuart, Iowa, Tom and his wife Jane of Dunlap, Frank and his wife Denise of Ute and Don and his wife Terri of Charter Oak, Iowa; three daughters and their husbands, Kate and Dale Bielenberg of Boone, Iowa, Laura and Rich Parker of St Charles, Iowa and Paula and Rick Esser of Denison, Iowa; 21 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; eight step-grandchildren; and a sister, MaDonna Schramm of Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Gerald; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Kay McAndrews.
