UTE, Iowa — Helen E. (Britton) Mordhorst, 88, of Ute died Monday, Aug. 11, 1997, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Neb. after a short illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute with the Rev. Edgar Bode officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Mrs. Mordhorst was born Dec. 21, 1908, in Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Augusta (Amundson) Britton. She was baptized and confirmed at Soldier Lutheran Church. She attended Meadows School #4 and graduated from Soldier High School in 1926.

She married Herbert Mordhorst in 1930. The couple farmed south of Ute until moving into Ute in 1962 where they owned and operated Herb's Plumbing and Heating. They retired in 1974. He died on March 8, 1993.

She served as town clerk, town treasurer and field assessor in Ute. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.

Her hobbies included sewing and needle work which she shared with friends and family.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Duane and Joyce Mordhorst and Jerome and Gladys Mordhorst all of Ute, a daughter and her husband, Marilyn and John Lindgren of Charlotte, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; a sister; and a great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Mike and Jeff Mordhorst, Eric, Ryan and Marc Lindgren and Dan Martin.
