UTE, Iowa — Marie Julia Shanahan, 92, of Ute died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ute, with the Rev. Ben Jensen officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7:30 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Miss Shanahan was born Aug. 7, 1905, in Ute, the daughter of J. William and Mary (Cronin) Shanahan. She was raised and educated in the Ute area. She taught rural school in the Ute community. She was also employed as a bookkeeper at Joyce's Lumber in Ute for 10 years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the St. Mary's Rosary Society.

Survivors include two sisters, Loretta Seufert and Margie and her husband Raymond Pithan, all of Ute; a sister-in-law, Teresa Shanahan of Ute; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent, and four nephews.
