ANTHON, Iowa - Leonard Emerson Stephenson, 87, of Anthon died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at the Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of Christ in Anthon, with the Rev. Elmer Hodge officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Mr. Stephenson was born March 10, 1904, in Holstein, Iowa, the son of Elmer Emerson and Sarah Caroline (Long) Stephenson.

He married Mabel Aaby on Dec. 13, 1924, in Carroll, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Ute area until 1949, when they moved into Osage, Iowa. In 1951, they moved to a farm near Anthon. They moved into Anthon in 1970. She died Aug. 7, 1974. He entered the nursing home in October 1994.

He was a member of Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Leonard Jr. and Juanita, and Wayne and Delores, all of Ute; three sisters, Edna Klemmensen of Moville, Iowa, Patriat Anderson and Sarah Nell Stephensen, both of Ida Grove, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four daughters, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Hollowood, three great-grandchildren and three sisters.
