Ute, Iowa — Agnes M. Mitchell, 88, of Ute died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998 at a local Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor Paul Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Soldier Country Lutheran Cemetery in Soldier.

Visitation will be Sunday after 2 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Mrs. Mitchell was born Nov. 24, 1909 near Ute, the daughter of Carl and Inga (Holt) Mangen. She grew up on a farm near Dunlap, Iowa. She graduated from the Charter Oak Normal Training High School and the Iowa State Teacher College. She spent three years as an instructor in a one room rural school.

She married Floyd Leslie Mitchell on Oct. 4, 1930. The couple farmed in the Ute area. He died Aug. 28, 1975. She remained on the farm until Sept. 1990, when she moved to Ute.

She was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church, the Ladies Society, the Willow Modern Homemakers, the Lucky 13 Club, the American Legion Auxiliary Aaby Unit 442 of Ute, and the Historical Society.

Survivors include one son and his wife Darrell and JoAnn of Ute; three grandchildren, Brenda and Lester Newell of Storm Lake, Iowa, Mike Mitchell of Ute, and Lori and Ben Roberson of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Hazel Johnson of Cumberland, Virginia; a special nephew, Leo A. Sullivan of Dunlap; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother.
