MOORHEAD, Iowa — Edna (Bekins) Moorhead, 97, of Moorhead died Saturday, May 3, 1997, at the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Moorhead Christian Church, with the Rev. John Eilers officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mrs. Moorhead was born July 24, 1899, in Sioux City, the daughter of Taake and Henrietta (Huyser) Bekins. She attended elementary school in Sioux City and graduated from Battle Creek, Mich. High School in 1917. She earned her bachelor of arts degree at Morningside College in 1922.

She married Park W. Moorhead on Aug. 30, 1922. The couple farmed in the Moorhead area. They spent winters in Texas Rio Grande Valley. He died April 12, 1987, in Onawa.

She was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church, where she served in most of the Christian Women's Fellowship and Sunday School affairs. She served as a director on the Morningside College Board of Trustees. She was a member of the Peter A. Hansen American Legion Auxiliary Post 365 and a 50 year charter member of the Moorhead Chapter 528 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a past Iowa Grand Representative to Florida. She enjoyed music and singing with the Monona County Chorus.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Kladstrup of Bella Vista, Ark.; a son and his wife, John and Anita of Moorhead; a son-in-law, James Blaine of Moorhead; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemary Blaine; a son-in-law, Arlo Kladstrup; a great-grandson; nine sisters; and three brothers.
