Rev. M. Dwight Walker, 91, of Sioux City, Iowa, died Thursday, February 27, 1997, at the Embassy Care Center in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

Rev. Walker was born December 27, 1905, on the family farm southeast of Blakesburg, Iowa, the son of Ernest M. and Myrtle M. (Cassill) Walker. In 1926 he graduated from Blakesburg High School Beginning his studies at Parsons College, Fairfield, Iowa, he graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, in 1930, followed by graduate work at the University of Chicago. As a student, Rev. Walker preached in Abbington, Bladensburg, Floris and Mitchellville. On September 1, 1931, her married Mary Elizabeth Martin at the Christian Church parsonage, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Rev. Walker was ordained June 8, 1930, at University Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Des Moines. Pastorates, all in Iowa, included Moorhead 1932-1937; Jefferson 1937-1946; Oskaloosa 1946¬1957; and Sioux City 1957¬1970.

After his retirement in 1970, Rev. Walker commuted to Moorhead to serve as interim pastor, ending his active ministry in December 1985. Mrs. Walker died October 8, 1992, South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Stacy Lynn Ahrweiler, San Francisco, California; a brother and his wife, Joseph and Dora Lyon Walker of Ottumwa, Iowa; 6 nieces; 3 nephews; and several grand-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Dwight David Walker in 1976; his daughter, Barbara Jean in 1979 and her husband, Charles Ahrweiler in 1977; his sister, Nova Walker Helmick in 1959; and his brother, Orval Walker in 1987.

A Prayer Service was held at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, March 2, 1997, at the First Christian Church, Sioux City, Iowa, with Pastor Timothy J. Squier officiating. The organist was Aleta Fenceroy and the mixed church quartet sang, "Surely The Presence Of The Lord". The congregational hymns were "The Church's One Foundation" and "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling".

Funeral Services were held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 3, 1997, at the Moorhead Christian Church, Moorhead, Iowa, with Rev. John J. Eilers officiating.

Assisted by Rev. Timothy J. Squire. A eulogy was given by John Moorhead. The organist was Mrs. Charles Kratz and the organ selection was, "Surely The Presence Of The Lord". The congregational hymns were "Near the Cross" and "It Is Well With My Soul".

Casket Bearers were Lee Olson, Will Bruell, Alan Fredregill, Juhl Hansen, Ray Hoffman, and John Moorhead.

Interment was in the Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa, with arrangement by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the churches he served: Moorhead Christian Church, Moorhead, Iowa; Central Christian Church, Jefferson, Iowa; First Christian Church, Oskaloosa, Iowa; and First Christian Church, Sioux City,Iowa.
