ONAWA, Iowa — Edras Ballantyne, 93, of Montrose, Colo., formerly of Onawa, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Donald R. Ludwick officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery in Moorhead, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mrs. Ballantyne was born May 24, 1904, near Driggs, Ark., the daughter of A. B. and Ida (Morsbach) Lozier. She and her family lived in Virginia, Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi, before moving to Moorhead in 1922. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1924 and completed her teachers training in Cedar Fall, Iowa.

She taught in many Monona County townships, including Willow and Soldier, Iowa.

She married Gerald Adams on June 11, 1928. The couple operated the Walnut Glen Orchard, east of Moorhead. He died Jan. 22, 1936, in Sioux City.

She married Andrew Ballantyne on Dec. 31, 1938. The couple continued operating the orchard until 1948, when they purchased a general store in Soldier, which they owned for 25 years. The couple moved to Onawa in 1972. He died Dec. 2, 1987, in Omaha, Neb.

She resided at her home until just before her 92nd birthday, when she entered Elmwood Care Center in Onawa. She moved to Valley Manor Care Center, where she spent her final year.

She was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Adams and Geri Adams and her husband, Don Schrandt, all of Denver, Colo.; a son and his wife, Marvin and Nancy Ballantyne of Montrose; eight grandchildren, Russ, Dave, Ken, and Steve Strampe, Rick and Ron Ayers, and John and Ann Ballantyne; a great-grandson; four step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Memorials may be directed to Monona County Historical Society and the Loess Hills Historical Society.
