Walter A. Maxwell born at Castana, Iowa on October 20, 1906 and passed from this life at his home on the farm North west of Onawa on March 19, 1978. Death came suddenly; he had reached the age of 71 years.

On November 1,1923, he was united in marriage with Clara Marie Birk at Onawa, Iowa. To this union four sons were born.

Walter spent his life-time in this community as a farmer; he retired just a few years ago. He was very much respected as a honest worker by all who knew him.

On January 6, 1961 he accepted the Christ as his Savior and was baptized in the First Christian Church of Onawa.

Survivors include his wife Marie of Onawa; three sons: Harold of Lakewood, California; Leo of Bellflower, California; and Jim of Onawa; one son Wayne preceded him in death in 1968; there are 3 sisters and 3 brothers; Mabel Farber of Onawa; Nellie (Mrs. Tony) White also of Onawa; Margaret (Mrs. Lloyd) Gray of Dunlap; Earl of Onawa; Farrell of Yorba Linda, California; and Raymond of Downey, California. 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren along with a number of other relatives and friends.

Besides his son Wayne, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ethel Stewart.

Services were Wednesday, March 22, 1978 at 10;00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. The organist, Mrs. Orville Rutledge accompanied the soloist, Mr. David Burnett in the selection, "How Great Thou Art".

The bearers were Dale Kreger, Benton Parks, Wayne Parks, Vernon Anderson, Lawrence Brooks, and Art Haynes.

Interment took place in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
