Mr. J. S. Maughlin died at the home of his son, A. J. Maughlin, last Sunday at 1:30.a,m, of paralysis, aged 79 years. The funeral was held at the house Monday afternoon, Rev. R. L.Lancing, of Everett, and Rev. A. G. Hanna officiating.

Mr. Maughlin came to Snohomish with his wife and daughter, Miss Flora Maughlin, in 1896 from Ottawa, Iowa, and has made his home with his sons since. Mr. Maughlin was born in Pennsylvania in 1823, and when quite young came to Iowa, where most of his life was spent. In early manhood he was a preacher of the gospel, and served the United Presbyterian church, having established and built a church at College Springs, Iowa. He leaves a wife, daughter, Miss Flora J. and two sons, W. J. Maughlin and A. J. Maughlin, all of whom live in Snohomish.

When Mr. Maughlin left Onawa, Iowa, to come to Washington, the local paper had the following notice.

Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Maughlin left Tuesday evening for Washington, where their sons, Albert and W. Maughlin are now located. Mr. and Mrs. Maughlin were among Onawa's oldest and best known citizens. They came to Monona county in 1865. Mr. Maughlin was for several years one of the county supervisors of this county, and has held various positions of trust in the early history of the county. He has been identified with many Onawa industries and has always been a prominent worker for the welfare of the town. The evening before they; left Mr. and Mrs. Maughlin were given a reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas H. Holbrook, which was largely attended by old settlers.
